GMNeTS covers a large geographical
area currently including 12
hospitals with maternity and neonatal services and one midwifery led unit,
the Corbar Maternity Unit, in Buxton. GMNeTS also provides an out of hours Neonatal Transport Service for
the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neonatal Network covering nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
GMNeTS aims to
undertake all emergency and pre-planned transfers of neonates between
referring and admitting NICUs within the Network and, when staffing allows, may
also transfer Network neonates for planned out-patient appointments.
In addition, when circumstances dictate, the team will also transfer neonates in and out of the region thus ensuring that the
care of neonates is not restricted by the availability of intensive
care cots in an individual unit (i.e. only close to where the neonate
is born or lives).
Like the North West Cot Bureau, GMNeTS is based on the Neonatal Medical Unit at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester.
